Synopsis:
-
The main story is narrated by Alfred Pennyworth, focusing on his rarely-explored role as Bruce Wayne’s surrogate father and his own hidden history. Alfred often refers to Bruce as “my son.”
-
The story begins with Batman and Alfred in Miami, pursuing Hush (Thomas Elliot), who has impersonated Bruce Wayne to attend a secret black-market auction for a mysterious, powerful weapon known as the “Genesis Engine.”
-
Batman takes Hush’s place to infiltrate the operation, which is being run by the descendants of historical pirates.
-
Interspersed with the present-day action is a flashback showing a young, masked man in 1970s Londonrunning from the police and leaving behind a unique symbol. The end of the issue reveals that this punk-rock youth is, in fact, a young Alfred Pennyworth, tying his past to the new villain Batman is facing. The twist implies that Bruce’s “first ally” may have a dangerous, forgotten history.
