The issue kicks off the “First Ally” storyline, which is primarily narrated by Alfred Pennyworth and explores his mysterious past.

Miami Chase: The story begins with a thrilling chase scene in Miami, where Batman (assisted by Alfred driving the Batmobile!) is pursuing Hush (Thomas Elliot). Hush has impersonated Bruce Wayne to attend a secret black-market auction.

The Genesis Engine: The object of the auction is a powerful, dangerous weapon called the “Genesis Engine,”which the sellers (descendants of pirates) are trying to keep out of the hands of traditional Gotham villains.

Infiltration: After capturing Hush, Batman infiltrates the auction by impersonating Hush impersonating Bruce Wayne—a layered disguise.

Alfred’s Past: The present-day action is intercut with flashbacks of a masked young man in 1970s London running from the police and leaving behind a unique symbol. The shock reveal at the end of the issue is that this young man with a dangerous past is, in fact, a young Alfred Pennyworth. The arc hints that Alfred’s secret history is directly connected to the new, powerful enemy Batman is facing.
