Story Description:
Following the events of the “Rebirth” relaunch, Batman realizes that his solo fight against crime is unsustainable and that Gotham City’s crime-fighting efforts need to be more organized.
Bruce Wayne, as Batman, recruits his cousin, Kate Kane (Batwoman), to co-lead a new, tightly-knit team of vigilantes. This series focuses on the evolution of the “Bat-Family” as a structured, military-style unit.
The team roster for this initial volume includes:
-
Batman (Bruce Wayne)
-
Batwoman (Kate Kane)
-
Red Robin (Tim Drake)
-
Spoiler (Stephanie Brown)
-
Orphan (Cassandra Cain)
-
A surprise addition: the reformed villain Clayface (Basil Karlo), who serves as the team’s muscle and a test of their compassion.
Their first major threat is a mysterious, highly-trained military faction known as the Colony, who operate with advanced technology and adopt military tactics far more ruthless than Batman’s. This group has a connection to Batwoman’s past and challenges the very idea of how Gotham should be protected, forcing Batman’s new team to fight an enemy that may be acting for the right reasons, but using dangerously wrong methods.
