This is the continuation of the Doctor Fate saga, starring the new, flawed hero, Kent V. Nelson (the estranged nephew of the original Doctor Fate, Kent Nelson).

Synopsis: This chapter is titled “More Pain”, a nod to the original Doctor Fate’s first appearance in More Fun Comics. Kent V. Nelson, who has only recently come into possession of the powerful Helmet of Fate, is shown to be struggling severely with his new role and his existing personal demons.

Kent Falls Off the Wagon: Feeling overwhelmed, miserable, and sorry for himself, Kent falls into despair and relapses into alcoholism.

The Burden of the Helmet: He is drunk, powerless, and utterly depressed—a state that is particularly dangerous because he possesses the immense power and responsibility of Doctor Fate.

The Quest: His journey is a deeply personal one, focusing on his need to overcome his own self-destructive tendencies before he can fully master the Helmet and confront any major external threats.

This back-up story follows the villainess Eclipso, who at this time was possessing the body of the deceased Jean Loring(the former wife of the Atom).

Synopsis: This story explores Eclipso’s mission to corrupt and tempt DC’s heroes. The issue promises a “shocking new development in the life of Eclipso — unlike everything you’ve seen in a DC series before!” This chapter sees Eclipso continuing to use manipulation and temptation to bring heroes to the dark side.
