The issue contains two main stories:

1. “And the Sky Itself Shall Burn!” (Main Story)

  • Plot: Paul Levitz & Keith Giffen

  • Script: Paul Levitz

  • Pencils: Keith Giffen

  • Inks: Larry Mahlstedt

This story continues a major threat to the United Planets:

  • A team of Legionnaires battles the powerful villain known as The Prophet on the Khund homeworld.

  • The Prophet is a former priest who was granted immense power by a mysterious, cosmic entity called Omen (often described as a “poor-man’s Galactus” by critics).

  • The conflict escalates the already tense diplomatic situation with the Khunds, jeopardizing the ongoing treaty negotiations.

  • Dawnstar also has a subplot involving her cosmic quest to find her soulmate.

2. “Guess What’s Coming to Dinner?” (Back-up Story)

  • Plot: Paul Levitz & Keith Giffen

  • Script: Paul Levitz

  • Pencils: George Tuska

  • Inks: Larry Mahlstedt

This is a more personal, character-focused story that addresses a major recent development:

  • Colossal Boy (Gim Allon) brings his new wife, the Durlan Yera, home to meet his parents, including his mother, Marte Allon, who is the powerful President of the United Planets.

  • The meeting is tense, dealing with the political implications of a U.P. President’s son marrying a member of the isolationist Durlan race, especially after the deception where Yera first impersonated Shrinking Violet.
