Elspeth is dead, having been struck down by her own envious champion, the sun god Heliod. For this betrayal and perceived affront, she is sentenced to the Underworld—a realm of eternal torment where the dead are forced to relive their greatest failures and worst moments for all eternity.
This first issue immediately throws Elspeth into this horrific, cyclical hell. However, Elspeth is a hero hardened by countless battles against unimaginable threats, including the Phyrexians. She refuses to submit to despair.
The story establishes her plight: she must fight against her traumatic memories and the eternal torments of the Underworld itself, proving that for a Planeswalker like her, death is not an ending, but just another challenge to be conquered.
