This series is set in the alternate reality of Earth-31916 (the Supreme Power universe) and is known for its gritty, politically-charged tone. The story takes place five years after a major confrontation that resulted in several heroes going missing or being disillusioned.

The overarching threat continues to be the U.S. Government’s manipulative, post-9/11 approach to controlling super-powered beings.

In this third issue, multiple storylines converge as the new age of “metahumans” begins to unfold:

  • The Newcomer: A young, unassuming teenage outcast unexpectedly finds herself endowed with spider-like powers. Her sudden and chaotic emergence onto the scene immediately attracts the unwanted attention of shadowy government agencies.
  • Nick Fury’s Investigation: The cynical agent Nick Fury closes in on a critical piece of the puzzle. He learns the full, unsettling truth behind why four astronauts returned to Earth transformed with their now-iconic powers—the event that started it all.
  • Nighthawk’s Move: The vigilante Nighthawk, always operating outside of government control, makes his bold and dramatic return to the public eye. His reappearance is calculated to upset the established political order and set him on a collision course with Fury’s investigations.

The issue moves the chess pieces of the political drama, focusing on how power is manufactured, controlled, and manipulated in the modern age, both by heroes and by the government that created them.
